Do you have a persistent want to transform your smile? If that's the case, Smiles of Chevy Chase may be the place to start. We offer Lumineers, the new gold standard in veneers. While there are many similarities between Lumineers and traditional veneers, there are also several vital differences that set them apart. Overall, what makes this option so amazing is that the shells are unbelievably thin, measuring in at about 0.2 mm. Traditional veneers are generally much thicker, requiring your tooth to be sanded down to make room for it. Fortunately, Lumineers are so paper thin that it's no longer necessary for Dr. Despina Markogiannakis to file down your teeth to complete the procedure. In addition, the shells are more translucent than other veneers so they appear more natural while remaining tough enough to last over two decades.
"I’ve been seeing Dr. Marko and her amazing team for 3 years now. I did my research when it came time to finding a new dentist after moving to DC, growing up in a dentist office caused me to have high standards. (And come on who actually enjoys the dentist?!) Well they blew all my expectations out of the park. They’re professional, thorough, informative, caring and very friendly. They always take the time to go above and beyond- even when I gave them the hardest time about finding the right material for my night-guard. Everyone (except me) had patience and reassurance through the whole process. They make every appointment a pleasant experience!"- A.M. / Google / May 28, 2020

"Dr Marko worked on restoring my 3 front teeth. They were very weak and decayed. I could not bite into anything major for awhile. I was scared my teeth would tear. I am amazed how beautiful and strong my teeth are today. Really amazing !!! Thank you Dr. Marko for your skill set, diligence and patience with me. My smile is back and even better !!! Thank you for all your hard work ! 💪 Demitra"- D.M. / Google / May 09, 2020

If you have a desire to fix cosmetic imperfections on your teeth, then you are likely a good candidate for Lumineers. However, there are a few factors that must be determined before the procedure can be performed. Upon a consultation at Smiles of Chevy Chase, Dr. Markogiannakis will determine if your teeth are healthy and free of cavities. This is important since your teeth aren't being replaced but merely capped. Therefore, the teeth supporting the veneers must be free of decay. You will also need to have a bite that is aligned. While Lumineers are widely referred to as "instant orthodontics," they can only do so much for poor alignment. If you have a severe over/underbite, traditional braces may be a better solution for now. Those with severe bruxism or teeth grinding may not be suitable candidates for Lumineers.
What To Expect
During your consultation, Dr. Markogiannakis will carefully create an exact mold of your teeth to be sent to the dental lab where your customized shells will be created. We will work with you to determine the tooth shade that best matches your existing teeth while helping to meet your expectations. Since there is no need to shape your teeth to adhere to your Lumineers, you won't need to be fitted with temporary veneers while you wait for the permanent ones to be created. After your personalized shells have been crafted, you will return to Smiles of Chevy Chase to apply them during a painless procedure that doesn't require any shots, grinding, or drilling. This high-tech bonding procedure will give you outstanding results, allowing your entire tooth to remain intact underneath the Lumineers.
Since your Lumineers are customized to your mouth, there will be no period of adjustment after receiving them. You will be able to eat and drink whatever you want (within reason) with confidence since Lumineers are adhered in a durable manner. However, it is still important that you do not bite down too hard on things, like ice or hard candy. Since the process is so simple and noninvasive, there is usually no recovery period to be concerned with as there is when one receives traditional veneers. Lumineers will still need to be cared for just like your natural teeth so be sure to brush and floss daily, as well as attend regularly scheduled appointments to Smiles of Chevy Chase every six months for routine maintenance and care.
Since Lumineers are considered a cosmetic procedure, they are typically not covered by dental insurance providers. Smiles of Chevy Chase does accept many payment methods, including medical financing, to help make your treatment easier to afford. During your consultation, Dr. Markogiannakis will customize your treatment plan to fit your goals. She will go over an estimate of your treatment cost and explain your payment options.
